Chinese Green Celery
Description of the variety
Chinese Green Celery features thinner, hollow stems and a more intense herbal aroma. The leaves are delicate and feathery, and the plant typically grows to about 30 – 60 cm tall. Its flavor is more pronounced. The stems and leaves are fresh green in colour.
Planting Guidelines
Use well-draining, nutrient-rich soil with good moisture retention. Mix in compost or aged manure.
Pre-moisten the soil before sowing to prevent seeds from sinking too deep, which can hinder germination.
Celery seeds require light to germinate.
It is better to prepare the seedlings indoor for transplanting.
Once seedlings sprout, introduce them to outdoor light slowly – start in shaded area before full sun exposure.
Transplant the seedlings to the outdoor beds once they develop true leaves.
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during the early stages.
Additional Remarks
In cooler regions for early spring with near-zero temperature, the indoor seedling method is suitable.
In warmer regions, the seedlings can be done outdoors directly.
Be careful to avoid frost damage.
