Tatsoi OP

Description of the variety

Tatsoi (Brassica rapa var. rosularis), also known as spinach mustard or rosette bok choy, is a cold-hardy, low-growing plant that forms a compact rosette of glossy, spoon-shaped leaves. Its flavor is mild and slightly nutty, with a tender texture that works well both raw and cooked. Tatsoi is rich in vitamins A, C, and K. It prefers cool weather and can tolerate light frosts, making it ideal for autumn and winter planting in Sydney. With proper spacing and consistent moisture, tatsoi can be harvested multiple times by cutting outer leaves or the whole rosette.

Planting Guidelines

Choose a location with full sun to partial shade.

Prepare well-drained, fertile soil with compost or organic matter.

Sow seeds directly into soil at a depth of 5 mm.

Space seeds 10–15 cm apart in rows 20–30 cm apart.

Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Additional Remarks

Tatsoi is a resilient and nutrient-rich green that’s perfect for small spaces and quick harvests. Its cold tolerance makes it a standout in Sydney’s mild winters.
